The Great Train Robbery
In December, 1903 when “The Great Train Robbery” was shown after a vaudeville act, no one knew what to expect. Would the audience like it? Would they even pay attention?
The answer was a resounding ‘Yes’! After watching the movie the first time, the audience shouted “Play It Again” and “The Great Train Robbery” was played three more times before the theatre owners finally turned on the lights and made the patrons leave.
The Western film was born! Movie history was made.
Film history was made that small, quiet night in a theatre in New York. “The Great Train Robbery” became America’s first western movie and film fans have been enjoying western movies ever since.
