Colonel Cord McNally (John Wayne) is trying to prevent the Army pay train carrying gold from getting robbed. However, the train carrying the gold is cleverly attacked and all of it is taken. The Colonel and his men take off in pursuit of the robbers but while chasing them down, the Colonel gets captured. The thieves are Confederate soldiers who are getting the money for the South.
Some time passes and the Civil War ends. But Colonel McNally hasn’t forgotten about the gold that was taken and the soldier that was killed. He knows that someone in his command was a traitor and he wants to find out who it was.
